Billy Squier is coming to Penn's Peak!
Penn's Peak is proud to announce Billy Squier on Sunday, July 12th, 2009 at 8:00pm.
Billy Squier with his string of arena rock anthems and power ballads lit up MTV in the 80's. He was not an overnight sensation; this was something he worked years to perfect. It was the late 60's, after discovering the music of Clapton and Cream, when Billy decided to really pursue music. He had been playing the piano and guitar for years, but was never sure if he really wanted to pursue a musical career. He played in several bands in Boston and NYC for the 70's, but his true start came in the late 70's when he fronted the band Piper. This was the band that got his name on the map. They were the first band he played with to acquire a recording contract. Unfortunately, the albums went nowhere, but it gave Billy the confidence he needed to pursue his solo career. His first solo release was 1980's Tale of The Tape. This album set the stage for his breakthrough. His second album release, Don't Say No, contained the smash hit "The Stroke." "The Stroke" plus "In The Dark," "My Kinda Lover" and "Lonely Is The Night" all received heavy rotation on MTV and the radio airwaves. He had yet another monster radio/MTV hit with 1982's "Everybody Wants You." He continued releasing albums throughout the 80's, but he just did not have enough to keep the fans occupied and his fan base began to falter. He continued producing albums into the 90's. His song "The Big Beat" from Tale of The Tape is the most sampled song in hip hop history. Since 2006, Billy has been playing with Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band. Various artists have been involved in the All Starr Band including Richard Marx, Sheila E. and Edgar Winter, just to name a few. A DVD is available with a documentary of the tour and full length footage of one of the concerts. Recently he performed at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame to raise money for educational programs.
